nyc round three: day two

annnd here we go! day two!

day two included all day of teen vogue fashion university! which was AMAZE because i got to see my favorite person ever who i'll tell you about in a small moment.

so. when i woke up i was really tired because i was still on utah time, but it was okay because i got on my outfit and curled my hair and set off, motivated by the awaiting swag and the desire for a good seat! i was so eager i forgot to even eat my bluberry muffin, so i was starving all day, but it was fine.

and thus it began...

GRACE CODDINGTON
Creative Director of Vogue
"I love going to Paris and seeing the shows... I mean you have to be there and it sounds dumb but I get really emotional looking at the clothes even if it's like a little t-shirt or skirt, if all the porportions and everything is right. and the other thing i look for in fashion is... i go to the showroom... [and] the first thing i do is turn the thing inside out and look how carefully it's made, that's incredibly important to me, you know I kind of grew up on couture..." -Grace Coddington

CHRIS BENZ
 Designer
"Be nice to everyone!" -my notes

TEEN VOGUE FLOOR TOUR
in which we tour the Teen Vogue offices

i bet you'd all be surprised to find out that the teen vogue offices are pretty much just teen vogue offices. however, they were home to the above pair of silky blue damask dr marten's that i'm really greedy about now...

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
 Designer and Project Runway Winner
"If he didn't really love doing it he wouldn't be doing it anymore." -my notes

KATE PHELAN
Creative Director of Topshop
"I didnt' have the patience to make clothes, I realized I loved clothes and I loved the innovation of clothes but I wasn't that interested in getting to the finished product, I used to imagine what the finished product was but didn't want to be part of that process." -Kate Phelan

and then as we were off to the closing seminar i was so close to AMY ASTLEY the editor-in-cheif of teen vogue, that i got so determined to get a picture that small etiquettes may have been breached. (not really, i was just pushier than i usually am so i felt like i was putting myself way out there.) our conversation went like this:

"can i get a quick picture with you!? i know we're trying to get out of here fast..."-me
"of course, i like your collars."-her
"thanks! i like your dress!"-me
"omg the editor in chief of teen vogue likes my collars bestdayever"-my head

(and for some reason blogger won't let me format anything from here on out, so i apologize)

and then the authorities were like, okay kids we've got to get a move on you can get a picture with her after the seminar. and then i was real glad i was obnoxious because i had places to be afterward.

THE EDITOR'S PANEL
Amy Astley, Gloria Baum, Andrew Bevan, Jane Keltner de Valle
and two others whose names i cannot decipher.
"You don't know where life is gonna take you and it's good to have goals and hopes and dreams and whatnot but it's also really good to be kind of [open]." - Andrew Bevan

by this time i had somehow lost my pen so i mostly just looked around and took pictures of the pretty theater. oh boy. and that was the end of fashion u day one!

i then walked to the hotel to meet my mom and get all fancied up to go see our broadway play called... Nice Work If You Can Get It with none other than Matthew Broderick! it took us some effort to get to the theater because we had yet to become pros at the street system and/or using maps on our phones, and when we did we realized it was the same exact theater we'd seen Billy Elliot at two years ago. after settling in our seats and eating our treats of choice (roasted nuts from the street carts, you know...) we both admitted to getting verklempt when the orchestra started playing! that's the kind of humans we are though. we get kerklempt at hearing gershwin tunes played on broadway. how do you not!?

when it was over we were all cheery imagining how matthew broderick gets to go home to sarah jessica (parker) who we think is really glamorous and it was a great time but i was also starving so we went to shake shack (another place i'd already eaten at before) and took it to go.

at this point part of a very serendipitious sub-plot occured but this sub-plot gets a post of it's own and i am saving it for last because it is the best. so dont worry.

then at the hotel we ate our burgers and thought it was super cool that we were watching saturday night live (hosted by bruno mars) live from new york while we were in new york, and we also think bruno mars's dancing band is pretty cool. in fact, they are some of our favorites.

stick around for sunday
aka one of the best days of my life.
XO Rosie

also congrats on reading the longest post ever with the most pictures of me ever.

nyc round three: day one.

hello friends. i'm back from new york and am indeed experiencing a serious apres-city low.
it's dismal. real life is not as fun.

so what better way to avoid all responsibilty than to re-live the past four days while sharing them with you!? i decided the easiest way to go about this is to go day-by-day, and while we're at it you'll get to see what i wore, too!

so here we go: day one!

please tell me you think the above picture is as hilarious as i think it is.
also i forgot to tell you that we somehow wore matching outfits... so people knew we were a team.

day one was friday and friday was our travel day. that plane ride is long and i somehow thought it would still be okay to wear my not-most-comfortable jeans. that was a bad choice. so, there i sat in the middle seat in my not-most-comfortable jeans and tried to ignore them by watching moonrise kingdom which was seriously awesome and darling (even though we could hardly hear anything because also planes are loud.) then we got off that plane and i adjusted my jeans at long last and then we waited in the cab line for too long. luckily it ended up being one of the less nauseating cab rides from the airport that i've experienced there, perhaps because i was bracing myself like "this is going to be nauseating so get ready" and then i was better at looking out windows and getting air so i was not so nauseated after all.

skylines and pretty buildings. be still my heart.

after we arrived at our hotel we got the grand tour from the bellboy of which made us cranky and tired because we just wanted to pass out once we got to the hotel not get talked to for another hour, but it was fine because then we knew how to operate their fancy do not disturb sign properly.

balloons, beats, hashtags. i mean what could be better!? my hair-do, that's what.

i then waffled around about changing outfits to go to the first event of teen vogue fashoin u at h&m, because i just wanted to wear my not-most-comfortable jeans and be done with it! but instead i ended up putting on a skirt and tights and we walked up fifth avenue to the partay. we also stopped to oogle over the louis vuitton windows which made me so happy because that louis vuitton stuff is some of my favorite right now. the h&m party was great and everything and i even got to embarrass myself a little with a conversation that went like this: "would you like one of these little tiny cookies?" said the male model server. "oh sure" said i, attempting to grab the cookie and the little cork platter it was on only to realize the cork platter is firmly attatched to the tray. "so wait do i take just the cookie?" i say. "uh you'd have to be really strong to get the cork off and then we would have to get a new tray," said the rude male model server. and i was like "fine then sir, i'm out!"

so after that we went to bloomingdales because i did a smart packing thing called buy-shoes-for-my-outfit-once-i-get-there. aka: not a smart packing thing. so we went to bloomingdales where they had no good shoes and we got hustled out the employee exit becuase we were there until it closed but we just had to get the free people shirt that was on sale, okay! we then had to go back to h&m where we more closely examined the shoe options and found some black wedge booties that fit the bill and at last we could go get dinner which was pizza at patsy's, where our friend took us on our first nyc trip. and in case you were wondering, we never try new restaurants.

 1. my face  2. the rainy city  3. complimetary cider in tiny cups at the hotel.

then on our cab ride back to the hotel something came on about heidi klum and it showed her standing on the final runway of project runway and we were like "blah! we never watched the finale!" so once at the hotel we finished off our day by watching who won project runway. and without saying names i'll just tell you that we were super glad about who won because we think he is a little bit really hilarious.

best post ever.
see you tomorrow to tell you about day two!
XO Rosie

ps: when i say "we" i'm talking about me and my mom, who are the two people who went on this trip.

the packing drama continues: nyc round three

good heavens dear friends!

i have to admit that i have serious struggles when it comes to choosing things to wear and even more serious struggles when those things have to be worn to new york city for round three of  teen vogue fashion u (about which you can read all sorts of things here.) now, i know last year i addressed this packing issue and thought i'd resolve that dilemma with sequin skirts, but, my friends, this year 'tis not so easily cured. indeed, it's taking much more than a single missing skirt to keep my wardrobe dissatisfied. so here we are where i thought maybe you'd like to come on a packing adventure-post with me, in case you too struggle with packing dilemmas when you're only days away from a big voyage. ta-da!

to start! the inspiration.

where we always start. this year, i'm feeling really under-the-weather when it comes to clothes and by that i mean i'm sick of everything. does that ever happen to you? i feel like it happens to me far too often for comfort. so indeed, with my trusty inspiration-hoard i've created an inspiration board...

it's a little bit of ultra-femme whimsy (as in sequin collars, polka dot pants, & floral hairpieces) all done up in a darker palette (like studded shoes, washed-up denim, & ruby lips) topped off with dorky art and literary references that i think are the bee's knees. (hollaback gatsby and that bit of hidden rococo architecture up top.) not to shabby for someone who is tired of all the clothes ever.

step two: the fantasy.

i hardly wanted to waste any time on this section because i'd rather get down to the nitty-gritty, as in
what i actually own, but hey i can't resist imagination shopping so here are three dream outfits that i
would love to have at-the-ready in my closet for this trip but don't. maybe next time. (or if you are
not me and are planning a trip, you could even get them!)

friday in nyc

sunday in nyc

ummm, THOSE HEELS.

monday in nyc

check out my polyvore here ps:  rosieindeed

grand finale: the reality.

this is the part where i get all a-huff. sure i could spend two hundred hours and two million dollars scouring stores and fabricating an entirely new wardrobe for this four day trip, but in actuality i have three days to prepare and maybe $30 to spare for things like a dang pair of hole-free black tights, so this preparation needs be snappy. however, you will just have to stay tuned for this part until apres trip!

and now that i have you all on the edge of your seats... see y'all soonish!

it is a place apart.

I think I forgot to mention....

I'm going back!

Where you ask?
New York City, obviously.

When?
Thursday!

Holy cow?
I know right!

This year's Fashion U lineup for me includes...

Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, and Alexander Wang.

I am going to try to be a much much better blogger and recorder of adventures this time, don't you worry. I'm going with my dad-o so I hope/suspect we'll be seeing more museums than H&M's this time 'round.

I shall keep you posted!

Once upon a time, I went to Mood...

You know, that place that makes an appearance on Project Runway every once in a while, and is now a staple destination of Project Runway loving New York tourists...

I petted a famous dog.

I stood by the Fancy Lace. With my mama.

I smiled a cheeky grin.

I got my eyes to close half-way.

I did it twice, for good measure.

And then I smiled a cheeky grin once again.

And then...

I took a picture with Casanova!!
(Remember him??)

He may or may not have been on the phone in that picture.

true story.
XO ROSIE

ps: this all happened way back in October. but I had to quick and share before the next season came out and Casanova was all but forgotten. (PS: the new seasons starts on the 28th!!! countdown starts now.)
